On February 22, on the eve of a UN General Assembly special session on Ukraine, a demonstration took place near the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo, where the Head of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation delivered an address calling for the exclusion of Russia from the UN Security Council.
“The fact that Russia continues to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council is comparable to a situation in which a murderer sits among the jurors in the trial of their own victim. At present, the work of this institution is frozen because of the Russian Federation, which uses its veto power on all resolutions related to its invasion of Ukraine,” said Serhii Kuzan.
Ahead of the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the UN General Assembly is set to vote during a special session on a draft resolution emphasizing the need for a peace that ensures Ukraine’s “sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.” According to the Associated Press, the draft resolution was previously circulated to all UN member states for review, except Russia and Belarus.
“Norway has been elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2023, which makes public action here and in other Security Council member states critically important for unblocking the work of this international institution. Why? Because the West must make difficult political decisions. And excluding Russia from the Security Council must be the very first step,” Serhii Kuzan emphasized.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian community in Oslo has been holding daily demonstrations outside parliament to remind politicians of Russian crimes and aggression against Ukraine.
